My oldest daughter has spent the last 5 days in San Diego with her Nana and I went and got her today. I missed her so much. She is a wonderful young lady (when her eyes aren't rolling and she's talking to me) but my world is complete with her in it. I bought a series of vampire books on my Nook today for her, she is 13 and her world is ALL about vampires and werewolves, to hopefully get her reading a little bit more. And ta-da! it worked! She started reading them as soon as they were done downloading.

Ok, I am a day behind in my post. Yesterday was a crazy day. My mom, 2 sons and their 2 best friends and I went to a fundraiser boutique for Yucaipa High School Girls Soccer. There was a car show, food vendors, vendors selling all kinds of stuff. My mom and I had "yard sale items". We didn't sell everything but we sold enough that the boys were happier loading the stuff than they were loading it in the cars and unloading it at 7am on the last Saturday of their Christmas break. So, I guess that it wasn't a terrible day. This is all but me, of course, waiting for customers:

Today was spent much like yesterday - cleaning out my mom's hoard. I found a box of old pictures of my Grandpa T's. There are pictures from when his mom and dad were married and of him as a child, he would've been 95 last October. So we can safely say these pictures are O-L-D. I was looking through them and when I turned away for a moment, this is what I found:

This is Twitten - she is 10 months old and as mean as she is cute. When I tried to reach for a photo she attacked me. This little kitten should be grateful she is cute.

I went to my parent's house today to help my mom clean out her storage shed and help her set up her sewing room. Let me just say when I say storage shed I mean think of the show Hoarders. She has stuff in there from 12 years ago that she hasn't even taken out of the boxes. She did really well today letting us throw stuff away, donate, and put items up for sale.

Well, anyway enough about my mom and on to the subject at had Day 5 picture.
This morning my sister-in-law left my 3 year old niece with my parents so she could run some errands. Well, when I got there this is what I found.

She loves to play dress up Barbie games on the computer. But what I really love is that she had pillows and blankets surrounding her - this is the only way I can see spending a day on the computer.... Cup of chocolate milk and cozy pillows - can't go wrong there!

52 Week Clean House Challenge

I made my husband a Chicago Bears blanket for Christmas. It is very warm an cozy. Early this morning (I'm talking 3am) it was chilly in the house and I woke up to find my kitten and dog cuddled in Daddy's blanket. Too cute these two animals are. They play and sleep together all the time. They have since the kitten was 4 weeks old. I will post a picture later of one of their first naps together.

I have decided to take a photo a day for the year 2012. It will be fun to see how our lives change over the course of 365 days. There will be photos of my kids, animals, family, friends, anything that catches my eye. At the end of the year I will also be making a photo book - I haven't decided if it will be a scrapbook, photo album or a photo book from Snap Fish - but, I will have all 365 photos in a book next January.

So here is January 1, 2012 (I know, I'm a day behind with the post - the picture is REALLY from yesterday.)

Mommy Time

Over the past few weeks I have been feeling a little trapped in this world of mine as Mommy and Wife. I haven't worked in the better part of a year and my time has been filled with paying bills, chauffeuring kids, laundry, cleaning, cooking, laundry, worrying about money, sleep overs, laundry (we have 6 people in our home there is A LOT of laundry), mediating fights, fixing broken hearts, homework, the list goes on and on. The only thing missing from my duties as a Mommy is the all important "me time". So between yesterday and today I reached empty in my "gas tank".

Our social worker was here today for her monthly visit and Mr. K and I were talking with her about my issues. And she came up with new rules for our family. She literally took my calendar off my wall and started writing days and time when I am "off".

We brought out all of the kids, including the kid down the street who is here more than my kids are, and explained to them that Mommy has a "gas tank" and that it needs to be filled once a week. All of the kids agreed that I sacrifice a lot for them and agreed that 5 hours a week for myself is acceptable for them. They are not allowed to call, text, email, Facebook, or smoke signal me during that time. They are also not to have their dad call me to ask me a question. If they don't know the answer they can wait until I get home.

Now, I am sure that you are thinking, "5 hours to yourself - good for you - but, you still have to come home and prepare dinner". To this I say "No Ma'am!" My girls are to cook dinner for the family every Thursday that I am gone. We will prepare a menu for the night and ensure that they have everything they need to prepare the meal ( I will keep some money in the cookie jar for pizza just in case).

So, beginning July 8th I will have 5 hours of uninterrupted "me time" every Thursday - now the big question will be What will I do with free time?????

My Kids

Last Friday my son (stepson if you want to get technical) Brett came home from his mom's house in Florida. He lived with her for the 1st 10years of his life, local to his dad and me. When he was 10 she moved to Florida with her new husband and he stayed her in California with us. Last summer he made the decision to move to Florida to be with her. He comes to visit us when he is out of school on vacations. So, he is here for his Spring Break and I couldn't be happier.

In August our family lost 1 kid (Brett) to Florida and gained 3 more (adoption). During these past 7 months our family is finding its way. Sometimes it is hard to stay on track with 3 teens/tweens that are new to the family. The kids Omar 14, Maragarita 12, and Kalla 10, keep me busy being a mom and referee most days. We feel like a family and all is well. That is until Brett arrives, then we feel complete. As soon as he sees the other kids it is as if he was only away at a friends house for over night. I wish that his mom lived closer to us so that we could see him more frequent. But for now we just have to enjoy the time that he have as a Complete Family while we can.

Tea Time

Yesterday I had a wonderful time at tea with my best friend, Laura, and one of her childhood friends, Cathy. It was a spure of the moment invite for me and let me tell you am I happy that I answered that phone call.

Laura and I have tea at The Eating Room, in Redlands CA, on a regular basis. Martha Green has the most wondrful bakery and little restuarant. And their tea- YUMMY! This was Cathy's first visit at The Eating Room it was fun to see her reaction to the wonderful food. Her 9 year old daughter is obssessed with tea parties. She was able to get some great ideas for her daughter's next party. Cathy lives 90 minutes away from Redlands and she wants to come down once a month to visit with Laura and me at The Eating Room. I can't wait.

Thanks for making my Saturday a fun filled day!

Plus Size Clothing

I am a Plus Size Woman. I am not necessarily HAPPY about being a plus size woman but none the less I am.

Today, one of my favorite blogs was hosting a giveaway for a free shirt from a new clothing company. When I entered to win I looked at the company's website and saw that the largest size they have is a 10/12 XL - (yes, XL). And that got me to thinking!

I have always had a hard time finding clothing to fit, especially something more than a moo moo. I do shop at Lane Bryant and Torrid but sometimes you want to wear oh I don't know maybe a shirt from a new company that is fresh and fun. I see small cute women wearing outfits and t-shirts that I would LOVE to wear. But, NOOOOO the companies who make the clothing don't want to sell to the more average sized women in America.

I just don't understand, how much more could it really cost to make clothes to fit more sizes!!!!!

Broken Nose vs. Heaven

While talking to my 10year old daughter about why it would be better to get hit in the face with the piece of plastic dashboard covering her air bag vs. not having said air bag we had the following conversation:

"Mom, wouldn't it be safer to not have the air bag behind that plastic?"

"No, it will be better to get hit with the plastic than say, die."
"But, I might break my nose."

"Again, broken nose - better than death"

"But, I would be ugly with a broken nose"

"You would look worse dead and you can still play and have fun with a broken nose"

"I can still play an have fun in Heaven. When my spirit gets there, there are basketball courts, soccer, everything that we have that is fun here"

- How do you argue with that???????

Little League Basball

So, I learned my lesson. DO NOT BE LAZY WITH YOUR KIDS! Brett wanted to play baseball but I didn't want to have to drive to the Beaumont park darn near everyday so, I signed him up in Banning. (And his 2 good friends are playing in Banning so he really wanted to be on the same team as them.) Last night we got our schedule there are only 2 teams - yes you read correctly 2 teams in the Broncos Division in Banning. So, the White Sox will be playing the Dodgers EVERY and I mean EVERY game.

The good thing about this, I had to find the silver lining, is that the coach is awesome, the kids are pretty good players and are helping Brett learn to play better. (We had a bad experience on the last team we were on - most of the kids were mean to the guys who weren't so good - wasn't very fun for Brett to play on that team). The coach is patient and knowledgeable and really wants to see the boys do well.

Lesson Learned - Do a little more research on the league. Don't be cheap with the gas in your car - it's only money Right?

Name Change

I took today off from work specifically to go to the Social Security off and officially change my name - yes, I have been married for 17 months have haven't gotten around to changing my name.

Let me give you a little history. I have been married before and I hyphenated my name during that marriage. I only ever used my married name, at work, the doctor, insurance, etc. but legally I was Heather Hyphenated. When my current husband and I went to get our marriage license, I hadn’t dropped the hyphen from my name, just lazy. So anyhoo, we went to the license department and I had all the correct documents proving that I was no longer Mrs. Hyphen except for the paper that said I could have my maiden name back. So, on my marriage license to Mr. K. it has my hyphenated name listed. For the record - Mr. K. was not at all pleased to have my hyphenated name on his marriage license.

So, as of today I am no longer Mrs. Hyphenated - I am simply Mrs. K. It seems weird to me, 30 + years of having my Daddy’s last name and now - a little black ink and a sworn promise to the lady behind the bullet proof glass that everything on my application is true and correct I am simply Heather K.

So tell me - did you hyphenate? Would you hyphenate?

Here it is Saturday at noon and I am still in my pjs and my honey and son are still sleeping. It is going to be a lazy one I can tell.

So, in my last post I said I wanted to post daily and well, we see how that has turned out so far. I will do better - I promise. I have a couple of DIY projects that I need to get done around here - I am super excited to share with you.

Well, I should go and see if my family is ready to wake up and start our weekend.

Day 1 of Kendrick Summer Vacation - Aquarium

We took Brett on a 3 day mini vacation just before he left for Florida. We went to the Aquarium of the Pacific, Whale Watching and to the Queen Mary. It was a great time.

Here is some of the fun we had Day 1 - Aquarium of the Pacific

We took a behind the scenes tour. It was really cool. Because we went on a sunday the classroom touch pools were not in use so we got to see them. These pools were great beacuse the animals in this pool were very interactive. The animals in the pools for the public were so touched that they barely responded to anything.

In the class room touch pool we saw sea anenomes

And...an anenome eating an urchin. Yes, I said eating. The staff was a little upset about this, they just received the urchins and now they were short one. It was very national geographic.

We got to go above one of the exhibits and feed the fish, that was really cool.

Shark eggs...At the aquarium they have figured out how to safely cut a shark egg and re seal it so that we can see what is going on inside the egg.

We had an awesome time at the aquarium. I was nervous that Brett would be bored and not enjoy himself. He looked at each exhibit and read about each animal. We all enjoyed the day, the behind the scene tour was the best part. Feeding the fish and seeing the anenome eating the urchin was awesome, that is stuff that you only get to see on tv.

So the aquarium was a big hit, lets see how the next day goes....Whale watching

Father's Day 2009

We went to Las Consuelo's Nuevas in Rancho Mirage for Father's Day Brunch, Champange brunch.... We went with my Dad and Mom, Jason's Dad and our family friend Dee (she has know Jason and Bill since Jason was 7)

Brett in Florida

As most of you know Brett is in Florida with his mom. Yesterday she took him to the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens. The zoo has a new attraction ZOOm Air Adventures. It is an aerial adventure course that will allow you to explore the tree tops from an animal’s perspective. Explore one or all of the three tree top courses available!

Brett and Ed did all three of the courses.

This is a video that his mom took of him on the zip line.

Once he made it through this part he was fine (he was a little scared when it started). He had to walk over suspened rope bridges, couple more zip lines. He even managed to get his glove stuck in his harness and just as the zoo staff was coming to his aid he ripped his glove loose.

Amazing Jazz Band

This fun YouTube video features a 1980s pop classic. The rock band Toto scored their biggest hit with Africa in 1982. The song is instantly recognizable. But it has been reinvented.

Perpetuum Jazzile is an a cappella jazz choir from Slovenia. It’s hard to think of something further from an ‘80s rock band. But their version of Africa may best the original. The group has amazing voices.

But the beginning of this video is really striking. Group members simulate an African thunderstorm with their hands. It’s really something to see and hear.

Pulling Weeds for WWE Monday Night Raw

We bought Brett and his friend Sergio tickets to WWE Monday Night Raw. It was on short notice, if you watched sporting news at all you may know that WWE was forced to move from Denver CO to Los Angeles because of the NBA playoffs...anyways...

We got the boys these tickets but decided that they needed to help "pay" for them. Our front yard needed the weeds pulled they wanted to go to RAW so I thought win win situation!

Brett is not a fan of manual labor. He even tried to pull "I don't know what a weed is" That I know to not be true.. He told us once of having to pull weeds at his mom's when she lived here ins CA. He also said that he was given the option one time to help pull weeds or don't go to Disneyland with everyone else, he chose to skip Disney. I told him that he could skip weeds and stay with Grandpa T. and I would go with Dad and Sergio. He quickly changed his mind and got out there and pulled him some weeds.

Sergio lives in an apartment so has never had the opportunity to pull weeds in the past. He really wasn't fond of it but he did do his best. He REALLY wanted to go to RAW. He has never been to something like that. His dad is a gardener and is always telling Sergio "Do good in school so you can get a good job" After today Sergio said I need to study more! He told his dad that he appreciates what he does for a living more now. Sergio is a really good kid.

They had to smoosh all of the weeds in the trash can - yes there was a lot of weeds, we had them pull som plants that had died as well. It was quite funny watching those two yahoos get in that trash can. How it didn't fall over I will never know.

They did a really good job, I can't wait 'til Brett gets back from FL the back yard really needs some help and well, I have some concert tickets that says he will gladly pull weeds 'till he is blue in the face.....

Adoption

We received word today that we have been approved for adoption. As most of you know we have been waiting for a while now for approval from the state of CA to adopt.

We are now ready to be matched with a couple of youngsters. We are looking for a sibling set - boy and girl. We would like them to be between the ages of 0 (yes, infant) and 11years old. (Brett would like a brother that is close to his age) We would like to have a new son and daughter but will accept 2 daughters (sorry Brett, you may have to live with a bunch of girls - just like your cousing Wylie)

Brett went to Florida today

We woke at 3:30am this morning to take Brett to the airport to go to Florida to see his mom, brother, sisters and milk-n-cookies (his step dad Ed). He will be there for 6 weeks. (As you can see from my count down clock - yes Christy I stole your idea). He was very excited to see his mom. He really likes flying - he says it feels like he is alone and grown up - even though he has a chaperone with him at all times.

He made it to the end of our street (1/2 block) before he fell asleep.

The last time we took him to the airport (in December) there was ice on the cars, ground and our noses. It was flippin' clold. Today - shorts and flip flops Gottat love summer!!!!

"Gmom - I am tired when can I get on the plane and go back to sleep?"

Bye Brett - This was the last time I got to see him. Only one of us can go upstairs to the gate. It stinks, but if that is what will keep our country safe (mom's not being able to watch their children leave in an airplane) then that is a sacrifice that I am willing to make for my country!

We live 45 mins from the airport. He made it to New Mexico before we made it home. Look at him go!

It was bitter sweet for me an Jason to send him on his way this morning. We will miss him terribly but he misses his mom and siblings so we were happy to see him go....

I am sure he will have a blast, they have plans to go to Disneyworld, Universal Studios, Kennedy Space Center and spend some time in the Florida Keys...

5th Grade Promotion

Thursday was Brett's last day of 5th grade. The school had a promotion ceremony with a hawaiian theme.

Brett had as AWESOME report card. He earned 10 A's and 4 B's, I am not sure how 6 classes gets 14 grades but I'll take all the A's we can get.

He also was part of the Advanced Reading class. They read books and then had to take tests and do reports on the books. First place read 450,000 words (I'm not sure about you but that sounds like A LOT of reading). Second place read 269,371 - I know the exact number because that is the award that Brett received. He did not know about this award and was very excited, as were we, that he earned this $10 walmart gift card.

Mr. Earl presents Brett his promotion certificate. I really should have doctored up this picture and removed the red eye... He was laughing at Jason because he was prenting to blow a trumpet at his seat. (something to do with Santino - WWE wrestler)

Brett and Sergio - Sergio also had perfect attendance for the school year! Way to go Sergio!!!

Brett and Mr. Earl. Mr. Earl took Brett's shades. He is a really neat teacher. Glad Brett had him this year.

Video Games at Kendrick Korner

So here it is Sunday afternoon, dinner in the crock pot, house clean, basketball game over (thank goodness), Savannah is asleep in my room. I think "we can play a board game or spend some family time together" WRONG! I get "let's (Brett and Jason) play video games.

Just to give you a background on our viedo game systems around here....

Not too mention the Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Playstation 1, Nintendo Game Boy.....

So with all of these games - especially the newest game systems why is it that I am sitting here watching them play "Pro Wrestling" for the Nintendo

Yes, you are right that is the controler for the original nintendo. Remember the grey console, having to wiggle the games in the system, blowing on the cartridge to get it to work....

So these two yahoos have all these new fangled games with graphics that rival real life.....

They decide to play a game made in 1986 with graphics like this: (in HD no less)

Is it just me or am I living with two video game freaks who don't care what they play as long as it has a controler and makes noise on the screen????

Meet our cats!

Back in February we got 2 cats. Keep in mind we already had 2 dogs and 1 fish. Jason and Brett really wanted A cat but, I can never just buy 1 of anything. They were up for adoption from our local shelter. The shelter houses some cats at Petco. Brett and I finally decided on these two.

Piston (her legal name is Celica - yes like the car) was hit by a car and wasn't expected to make it. She is 1 year old a loving little kitty. Her name is now Piston beacause Jason was calling her Piston Honda (thinking that Honda made the Celica (Toyota)) and some fighter in some old school video game was named Piston Honda, so we shortened it to Piston.

Barry is a FAT cat. He is a 4 year old stray. Surprisingly he is a good cat. Not to fond of dogs, he will tell any dog what time it is if they get too close. For the first week he was here my dogs were afraid to walk through their own home. Barry lightened up and we are one BIG happy family.

It took a while for me to fill out all of the adoption paperwork so Brett alternated sitting with and holding each cat - I think he missed his DS. We didn't tell dad that we were getting the cats until he called and wanted to know if we were planning on going to Brett's soccer game (of course we were)

Each year the casino where I work sponsors a charity golf tournament. I am the tournament coordinator. It is a blast. Once all the "work" is done the day of the tournament I drive around in a golf cart and make sure everyone is having a good time.

Last year while driving around we saw a bobcat. He was beautiful. We saw him walking so we chased - I mean followed - him in the golf cart. Note: All pictures taken with Verizon Wireless ENV - original model

We watched the bobcat walk to the edge of the weeds and saw him hunch down. He appeared to be hunting something. His tail was twitching and he looked ready to pounce. So we got closer. I thought for sure we were going to see National Geographic right there in Beaumont.

We watched whatever he was watching for a while and then we decided to get a little closer.

He laid down in the shade and rested. We were so close to him that you could hear his breath. He didn't appear to be too concerned with us. Keep in mind, he is a wild animal, we were in an open golf cart (not so much as a fiberglass windshield) AND Laura is on blood thinners. She was hanging out of the golf cart to get a better picture with my cell phone. This year I will bring my camera!

We hope to see him again this year!!!

Cabazon Dinosaurs

Jason to Brett to the Dinosaurs here in Cabazon the other day. He had a blast.

I might not have my drivers license but, I can drive this ancient turtle. (That turtle was old when I was a kid)

Spaghetti and Savannah

I usually watch Savannah on Wednesday nights so the big girls can go to Taco Night at the Moose Lodge. We had spaghetti tonight!

She loves this little high chair. It appears to be comfy and she can sit on the table so we can share our dinner too.

After I was done eating I started to clean the table and put some of the left overs away. She was not quite done (and she was covered in spaghetti) so I let her finish her dinner while I worked. I guess when she finished she got tired of waiting on me and decided to make some music to pass the time!

Guitar Hero for the DS

Brett got Guitar Hero for his DS for his birthday. Mind you his birthday is in early March and this picture was taken just after he took it out of the package in early April. Sometimes he is a little slow getting to stuff.

He sits and plays that DS for hours (if he can con me into it - Dad will let him play until his eyes pop out of his head)

This game has a horrible noise. If you have ever played guitar hero you know that you have to press the colored key and stum your guitar. Well on the DS you have to strum with the stylus. That clicking noise can drive you to drink!!!!! Its worse when the volume is off all you hear is him singing (off key I might add) and that darn tap, tap, tap...the faster the song the more frequent the tap! UGH!!!!!

Easter 2009

Happy Easter!

This was a very simple easter this year. Our families have been very busy lately so we did something small. Do you see the Christmas bag in the background? Well that is the gift wrapping that the easter bunny brought my gift in. He got me a web cam. I am excited about that!

The big kids were only allowed a few eggs. So, I had Brett "plant" this egg for the picture. Had to get it on film that he wasn't deprived an easter egg hunt.

Bryce how many eggs do you have. We can't find them all....

I'm glad the Easter egg hunt was at their house, I really don't need to wake up to rotten egg smell.

This was Savannah's first Easter. She found her first egg!

Disneyland February 2009

We (Me, Mom, Jason and Angie (mother to the 4 girls)) took the kids to Disneyland in February. Let me tell you it took all of us to keep track of Dakota and Cheyenne. It was Savannah's 1st trip - she was not even 1yr when we went (she turned 1 a month after we went). She was an awesome baby that day. She was better than the bigger kids.

Nana? Are you ready for a nap? I don't think that Minnie will mind if you take a nap in her bed.

Look! There is Monkey from Aladin in Small World. Disney redid Small World and added Disney characters to the ride.

Look no hands! Bryce don't spin us too fast. I get sick! Gmom can you please get me away from these two looney birds? Dad relaxe she won't spin us too much - she is just a little girl.

Kendrick's on California Screamin' at California Adventure! Doesn't Brett look scared? He was screamin' like a girl the whole ride. But to be honest he loves this ride, he just screams like a girl. (Secretly I can't wait for his voice to change so that horrible screetching scream will go away) The guy next to Brett is some stranger (single rider) poor guy having to sit through Brett screamin' that whole time....

And yes, we are to cheap to actually buy the picture of us on the ride.

Disney on Ice

We took the kids to Disney on Ice - Disneyland Adventure. It is a story of The Incredibles and their trip to Disneyland. They have to save Disneyland from a robot Syndrome. It was very fun. We took our son Brett, his friend Sergio, our nieces: Bryce, Dakota and Cheyenne, Bryce's friend Lauren and my Mom and Sister-in-Law Angie. Dakota and Bryce have been to see Disney Princesses on Ice before. Dakota kept asking me "when will the princesses come out?" Everyone had a great time. Sergio has never been to anything like this so he had the BEST time.

We bought the boys popcorn. With the popcorn came these masks

So...I'm tired after a day at work and think "What is easy to prepare for dinner?" And then it hits me TV Dinners. I don't have to do anything but spend 3 mins cooking my own dinner. That sounds good to me!

So I call Brett and his cousin Kole to pick out and cook their dinners.

So we wait..... (Tuff waits too...Maybe they will drop a crumb or two!)

Yup you guessed it - he will loose it!

Brett, my son (well techincally my step son - but my son non the less) ran to the ice cream man (without permission I might add) and some how lost his $20 bill.

My guess is that the excitment over Pokemon cards - by the way I hate that this ice cream man carries good Pokemon cards, can't get the boy to focus until he has seen the ice cream man - and the wonderful Cabazon wind had something to do with the rogue $20 bill.

I guess now when we tell Brett to put his money in his wallet he will listen.....
